We are a busy, modern NHS dental surgery owned and managed by Greg Jones and Richard Joseph. Greg and Richard are the joint Dental Foundation trainers and the practice is extremely fortunate that it has been involved in Foundation Training for over 12 years.

The practice is situated approximately 5 minutes away from Rotherham town centre and is easily accessible by car, bus or train. College Road is on a main bus route in and out of Rotherham and the train station is a 6 minute walk away. Trains run between Sheffield and Rotherham very regularly throughout the day and take approximately 12 minutes. The bus from Sheffield to Rotherham takes approximately 35 minutes. The surgery is 5 miles from the Post Graduate centre at Don Valley House which is 14 minutes away by car.

Rotherham town centre has many high street stores and banks but nearby is Parkgate retail centre and for more shopping, the Meadowhall centre is about 6 minutes by car from the practice (2.8 miles) and there is a newsagent/general store next to the practice.

College Road dental practice has three surgeries and a decontamination room. The surgery dates back to the 1930’s and is in an old Victorian terraced house. The three surgeries are all well equipped with the Foundation Dentist’s surgery being next to the Trainer’s surgery. There are five dentists that work at the surgery (3 young associates doing a split week), two dental nurses, two trainee dental nurses, a practice manager and one receptionist. Both Richard and Greg enjoy MOS and have been trained to use IV sedation. Richard has completed an implant course and the FD will be able to assist and observe in some implant cases as well as observing and treating patients under IV sedation. Greg is currently studying at Sheffield Hallam University in the third year of the M.Sc. in Clinical Education.

The practice is approximately 95% NHS and 5% private but many NHS patients opt for private treatments such as tooth whitening, private dentures, cosmetic dentistry, implants etc. The practice is located in a mainly residential area but has a very broad patient base from Rotherham, parts of Sheffield and much further afield. The practice has been in the BDA good practice scheme since 2006. We have a good mix of patients from all walks of life with differing needs, this means that DF1 dentists will be able to try their hand at a wide variety of treatments ranging from general restorative work, prosthetics, periodontology, extractions right through to cosmetic dentistry, bleaching and the opportunity to sit in and observe Implant cases at our other surgery.

Rotherham has several restaurants, bars and nightclubs but there is a better selection in nearby Sheffield city centre and several restaurants and a cinema in the Meadowhall centre and also Don Valley Centertainment park. A short distance from the surgery is the picturesque village of Wentworth with its award winning garden centre and also Rother Valley country park with cycling, walking and many water sports activities such as sailing, canoeing and windsurfing.

The practice has a warm, friendly and caring environment and regular social events throughout the year. As our practice has 5 other sister practices the FD will be able to discuss opinions and cases with other young dentists as well as having many opportunities to socialise with a greater number of staff. Social events range from regular pub lunches to fancy dress parties and karaoke nights!!! The group of practices is not a Corporate and the previous 5 FD’s still work within the group. The practice now has the BDA good practice award at Silver level.
